Homemaker History

Over the past four decades, Homemaker Prospect has played a pivotal role in shaping the Australian LFR market and how we shop in this sector.

The vision was brought to life in the mid-1980s by Peter Draper (Father of our Director Tony Draper) after bringing a UK-based model of shopping to Australia.

After undertaking a home renovation, Peter spent hours driving to different homeware stores, trading out of industrial areas. His wife asked him: “Why isn’t there a centralised centre where I can get everything I need for the house?”

And so Homebase was born.

Homebase (now Homemaker Prospect) was the first was the first ever Council Approved LFR centre established in Australia. Located in Western Sydney, this centre has a rich history as a retail hub for home furnishings, appliances and lifestyle products, and was designed to meet the growing demand as Sydney’s suburban sprawl expanded.

Homebase saw Sydney’s first Bunnings store (formerly BBC Hardware) in a homemaker centre. Prospect has since evolved to offer an ever-expanding array of stores catering to the changing nature of retail.

Over time, with different changes in ownership, the Centre is now owned by AsheMorgan, who have a proven track record of success in the LFR sector and repositioning of assets.

The centre is currently undergoing a major rejuvenation, re-mixing, and master-planning with the construction of a new car park, childcare centre and F&B precinct, set to commence early next year.

Retail Projex Directors, Cameron Henshaw, Tony Draper & Dale McDermid, have a longstanding connection with the centre and so we have come full circle, with Shelby Woodgate & Cameron Henshaw now undertaking the centre remixing.

We’re excited to announce new tenants; Focus on Furniture, Pillow Talk, Plush, Forty Winks, BlueFit Swim School, Planet Fitness, Oz Education, Frangos, Shed Café…..and more. The centre is undergoing a much-needed change, and we hope the Western Sydney community will be pleased with the progress over the next 18 months.” – Shelby Woodgate, Senior Leasing Executive
